Visium Spatial Gene Expression
Overview
Visium Spatial Gene Expression is a spatial transcriptomics solution by 10x Genomics for classifying tissue based on total mRNA. Spatial transcriptomics is an innovative approach for capturing the positional context of transcriptional activity within intact tissue to enable a comprehensive description of mRNA distribution within each individual tissue slice.
Visium Spatial Gene Expression utilizes an in situ capturing method, in which the transcript is captured within the tissue, followed by sequencing. It measures total mRNA in intact tissue sections and maps where that gene activity is occurring to trace back the RNA transcripts to their original location. This solution enables spatially resolved visualization of gene expression in a wide variety of tissues, without the need for target pre-selection. It can be used to discover novel insights into normal development, disease pathology, and clinical translational research.
Applications
-
Used to map the architecture of complex tissues and reveal the organization and interaction among cells at the molecular level.
-
Help understand the molecular behavior of cells within pathologic microenvironment, and the interactions of cells with surrounding stromal and immune cells, which are crucial for disease progression and therapy.
-
Visualize how gene expression varies across different developmental stages and in different cell types in organism development study.
-
Reveal how immune cells infiltrate tissues and contribute to inflammatory diseases, cancer, and infections.
